24 Days in Africa, Day 18: Mbarara, Uganda

Went to a local church. I learned that God blessed Adam, and therefore, we are all blessed. The word ‘blessing’ was used a lot, as was ‘limitations.’ Sin? Not once. Thus, the Bible was reinterpreted through the lens of our personal blessing and prosperity. The service itself began with a choir song, then a few skits. They were in the local language and were facing each other rather than the audience and there was no mic, so I barely heard it.

There were then more choir songs including one by the youth, then some normal worship. Overall, it was more subdued than I expected. I grew up Pentecostal, after all. “Hallelujah!” got a response of “Amen!” There were some aspects, like the dancing on stage, that were reflective of Africa.

There were multiple times, including the sermon, where one spoke in English and another repeated locally.
