Hail

I went to Elitch’s today, an amusement park in Denver owned by Six Flags. As we were preparing to go on our first ride, there was lightning, and that ride rode no more. We then got on, coincidently, Thunderbolt (if there is such a thing). It started to rain, and we went on a teacup ride. Then it really started to rain, so we took cover under a shaded bench. That’s when the fun started. Not only did it continue to rain harder on this previously hot, sunny day, but it then began to hail…for about 5 minutes. It reverted to rain, and then people began to walk about again. They made a mistake though, especially those with baby carriages, for then it REALLY started to hail, painfully so, increasing in intensity every few minutes, till it seemed that hell itself had frozen over as the ground disappeared and pools of cold ice water began to form. We were trapped. When it went from a heavy hail to a light hail, we ran for playland, which was quite cold in sandles, especially as the hail lodged itself in a unified form beneath my feet. We played in playland for a bit, and then the hail fell no more, only rain. In total, it was about 30 minutes of hail, like my eyes have never before seen or my ears heard. We dashed through the snowy, watery sidewalk through to crowds to get our rain check refund (hail check?).

It was nice to finally arrive at the car. We then warmed up with coffee and food at Paris on the Platte in downtown Denver, which was quite nice. The moral of the story is………um, well, oh yeah: unexpected moments with good friends are the ones that are the most memorable:)
