Snakes on a Plane

I’ll admit it’s a great title, but I never plan on seeing it…unless it’s with some of my MST3K friends (that’s Mystery Science Theatre 3000, by the way).

Apparently they picked the perfect week to release it, as it’s #1 at the box office, with it’s first weekend drawing in a whopping $15.2 million! The studio spent about $13 million marketing the movie, so it’s a flop by any definition. Yet, even before it was released, it was a cult movie. The hype on the Internet regarding this movie was fascinating, and arguably unprecedented. As with much in the online social arena, turning hype into dollars is still a challenge.

If you’re ready for more, you can always check out the direct-to-video Snakes on a Train!
