Gasping

Need to hear, uncrowd my mind
Free it of the rambling
Thoughts that never cease
They draw me in, and choke
Suffocating me in misery

The balladeer strings along a melody
drawing a story with pencils of metal
the canvas bright from the master’s stroke
creates a mosaic of reflections

Remember the Imperishable Flame

As the guitar sings and the voice plays
it calms the haunted heart inside
ready to burst into oblivion
sucking all into it’s dark interior
comsuming the light of the trees
and the guiding stars of the cosmos

Refrain

I want to pound this table!
Slam my hands and fists in
a violent motion that would cut
through to the end of it!
All that remains are shattered
unrecognizable pieces of a past life
which you don’t care to look upon
or pay for as you walk on.

Lost

throw on a backpack
travel the world
leave behind your past
the friends you love
the security you’ve lost
and write a lament
you’ll never go back
and will always long
for what you are not
and where you’ll never be
it’s all lost, forever

A violent reaction, in a moment
reveals the frustration of a life
lived to the end of its rope
ready to be thrown overboard
looking down to the inevitable
beginning of a new journey
past all you can’t leave behind
crying out to a god you can’t see
you can’t here, you can’t believe in
you can’t deny, you won’t let go
