Success anyone?
Winston Churchill defined success as “moving from failure to failure without any loss of enthusiasm.” That’s a rather odd way of looking at things, isn’t it? Though it defies common sense, perhaps it’s the epitome of truth. The road to success has failure around every corner, making it impossible to miss. Maybe if people like me came to grips with the idea that I WILL FAIL, I might be better off. We all fail. To try and fail is to live. To stop trying or to never try is to be dead already.
I’ve been wondering for the past few months whether I’m dead or alive. Enthusiasm implies inertia, movement, passion. In movement there is life. Moreover, I think enthusiasm from the heart often reflects on God’s design for our lives. If I am truly enthusiastic about the things growing from Seth’s heart, I am being the Seth God intended, whether I succeed or fail. Then again, success or failure depends greatly on one’s point of view, don’t you think?
Lord, help me to learn to fail wholeheartedly.
