Castles

Filed under: Poetry — 25 March 1998 @ 6:46 pm

Love elusive;
Sword piercing the frozen heart.

Hard as expected, falsely defending its
territory from those outside the walls.
Knocking invites repulsion.
The king cannot be bothered.
“I am the king of my castle,” you say. You say
inside the throne room of the empty space, yelling
orders at your subjects, none of whom exist.

Beneath the surface of the wall, the far one,
are carved past recollections
deep, hidden by the inner chamber, holding treasures,
all worthless, though costly, trophies of false hopes.
